E’ con grande gioia che ci apprestiamo ad inaugurare questo primo Campionato Europeo di softball per la categoria ‘Under 22’. E la gioia è giustificata dal fatto che l’Italia ha l’onore di tenere a battesimo una manifestazione nuova, di una categoria nuova e in una Regione come il Piemonte, che per baseball e softball ha dimostrato di saper guardare al futuro. Pochi mesi fa, ospite del Presidente Regionale De Bon, ho preso visione della bontà di un lavoro che ha portato ad aumentare squadre e tesserati con un tasso di crescita davvero notevole.
Reduce dall’organizzazione dei Giochi Olimpici invernali, il Piemonte è sicuramente pronto per ospitare l’Europa del softball nelle sue strutture all’avanguardia. Sono convinto che in questa Regione l’Italia darà al Continente intero una dimostrazione chiara di quale sia la sua vocazione ad organizzare eventi al massimo livello. Per tutti gli ospiti stranieri sarà anche un’occasione per vivere l’atmosfera dei luoghi nei quali, oltre un secolo fa, è nato il progetto dell’Italia come paese libero ed unito.

WELCOME

Opening the first softball European Championship for girls under 22 years of age here in the Region of Piemonte gives me a great joy. Italy has the honour of launch this competition in a Region where baseball and softball are growing at a pace that surprised even myself, when I came to visit Regional President De Bon a few months ago.
The Region of Piemonte is of course ready to host any type of event after giving the whole world a demonstration of great capability with the Winter Olympics.
What this Region will show to the rest of Europe is the superior level of the facilities and the richness of a culture that cradled, over a century ago, the project of Italy as a united and free country.
